Our Story
Cypher Research is founded by Don O’Neill and Robert Sullivan with a vision that marketing research field service could be modernized and streamlined — better service for clients at lower cost, with quality recruiting kept in-house.
Cypher opens the doors on a facility in Canton, MI, and quickly becomes a trusted Detroit/Ann Arbor market research source.
As the Great Recession casts a shadow on the industry, Don and Robert work to increase their reach, efficiency, and services, outlasting the economic slowdown.
Growth demands hiring and expansion. Cypher hires several industry veterans as well as welcoming young talent fresh to the industry. A facility expansion enters the planning phase.
Michigan Market Research becomes part of Cypher Research. Roxanne Naszradi and her team join, expanding our knowledge, reach, and capabilities.
Cypher’s new Livonia facility opens, including our 1,800-square-foot showroom. When COVID hits, the company uses its tech advantage to instantly pivot to online, nationwide recruiting.
Twenty years on, Cypher is a national presence — recognized in the industry for the quality of our fieldwork, the dedication of our team, and a facility built from the ground up for research.

Founder · Since 2006
Before founding Cypher Research in 2006, Robert worked for several other research field services managing qualitative projects. In his 31 years in the industry he has managed over 2,000 projects and led Cypher Research to a reputation for quality and success.
Founder · Since 2006
Don began his research career with Maritz Marketing Research in 1994, managing a 70-station CATI phone room and hundreds of quantitative data collection projects. He has worked primarily on the technical side of research fieldwork, and is currently developing CypherRPM — our second-generation in-house database and project management software.
Partner · Since 2018
Roxanne began her marketing research career with Crimmins and Forman Research in 1995. She later took over the company as owner and expanded it into Michigan Market Research. MMR became part of Cypher in 2018, with Roxanne joining as our newest partner and co-owner.
Senior Project Manager · Since 2016
Erin joined Cypher Research in 2016 and since then has grown into an integral member of our team as our Senior Project Manager.

Krista began her research career with Crimmins and Forman, working with Roxanne, and joined Cypher with the MMR team in 2018.
Project Manager · Since 2024
Jenny, an original member of Cypher Research's core team, returned in 2024 as a Project Manager in charge of B2B projects.
